02 Jun CIM and Campus do Mar promote with the Port Authority, ARVI, Aclugana, Conxemar and Raxia 29 free courses on the blue economy in the marine-maritime field
Through the ImpulsaAzul project, 420 people, both unemployed and working, will be able to benefit from this project
Centro de Investigación Mariña (CIM) and Campus do Mar by the Universidade de Vigo, Port Authority, Conxemar, Arvi, Aclunaga and Raxia Formación will launch 29 free training actions on blue economy in the marine-maritime field that will benefit up to 420 people, both unemployed and active, in the period 2025- 2027. This is a new edition of the ImpulsaAzul project, led by the APV itself and financed by the Biodiversity Foundation within the Empleaverde+ program, which has a total budget of 556,120.36 €, and an EU grant of 357,752.85 €.
The main objective of the project is to train unemployed people and workers in the Blue Economy sectors, one of the areas with the greatest potential for employment generation, in order to acquire and strengthen skills that respond to the challenges and opportunities of the ecological transition to sustainable fisheries and aquaculture.
Priority for unemployed persons
The 29 training actions cover different professional sectors belonging to the Blue Economy, including the fishing sector, the naval sector, the fishing product marketing and processing companies, as well as transversal courses that address aspects present in all these areas.
The forecast is to reach the participation of 420 enrolled men and women, giving priority to unemployed people, although female workers may also benefit, and at the same time considering the implementation of affirmative action measures to favor the participation of women.
In-person teaching in Galicia and Andalusia will be combined with online training, for which there will be an e-learning platform created specifically for this project which, in addition to facilitating communication between students and teaching staff, will also promote interaction between the different participants.
One of the sectors with the greatest potential for employment generation
The Blue Economy represents one of the sectors with the greatest potential for employment generation. Fishing and aquaculture employ between 10% and 12% of the world’s population and it is estimated that these figures will double by 2030. In contrast, maritime jobs are not attractive to the young population, making it difficult for companies to find labor with the right skills and profiles. At the same time, in the European Union alone there are approximately 14 million young people between 15 and 29 years of age with difficulties in accessing the labor market, which highlights the need to generate employment opportunities for these new generations of professionals.
